Radio / Clearance Rules

  • Squawk'solo' with every radio transmission
  • Reject'immediate takeoff' / 'minimum-delay' / 'expedite' — reply '(call sign) Solo, unable.'

  • RequiredBefore Landing Checklist + gear DOWN every landing — no exceptions

Maneuvers Prohibited for Student Solo

  • Split-S
  • Immelmann
  • Combination Maneuver
  • Intentional sustained inverted flight
  • Carrier Break
  • Initial Re-Entry (reset to initial after T&G)
  • Spins (per EP card — all spins prohibited solo per syllabus)

Plus all EP-card prohibitions (inverted stalls/spins · snap maneuvers · spins outside altitude/configuration limits · tail slides).

Solo Emergency Mindset

Engine failure / uncommanded power

AFMAN §4.4.4: solo student → seriously consider ejection. Min LDA 4,000 ft.

Any engine malfunction (engine running)

Default action is PEL.

Lost / disoriented

Climb · contact Approach · request vectors home.

Inadvertent IMC

Climb to safe altitude · contact ATC · request IFR.
